Cool (Overlay) Text effect on GIMP

Have you ever seen that cool effect on psp or photoshop where the text blends into the background? Well, I'm gonna show you how to do that using a free graphics program! First of all open GIMP. Now, open your image you want to add the text to. Select this on the toolbar:

Type your text. Now open your layer thing. If you can't see it go on this menu:

Then, select the layer your text is on, and change this to overlay:

If it is too light, duplicate it. This is how mine turned out:
